Leon Van Der Merwe, an Engineer in the construction business who resides in Lephalale has come forward to share his story about the incredible effects that BarrierTech has had on his life. “I am walking, living proof that this product alone, saved my leg from being amputated,” says Leon.
On Christmas Day, 25th December 2020, Leon and one of his employees who had been drinking had a dispute. The employee attacked Leon from behind and as he fell, he heard his ancle snap. When he tried to stand up, his bone punctured through his skin and pierced out of his leg. One bone had popped out of the socket and the entire socket protruded out of his leg.
Leon, who is currently taking Warfarin, a blood thinner to assist him with his heart problem, immediately started losing a lot of blood. He wrapped his leg in towels and went to the hospital. The doctors explained that they needed to operate but because of the Warfarin, they couldn’t. They advised that the best they could do was to stitch up the wound to stop the bleeding and then reset it at a later stage.

As much as Leon protested, doctors insisted on covering the open wound with plaster of paris. 2 weeks later, Leon was in the most excruciating pain. “The pain was incredible and the smell coming from under the plaster of paris was putrid. It smelt rotten,” recalls Leon.
Leons wound, almost black, doctors said they would have to amputate his leg.
Leon went back to hospital and when the plaster of paris was removed, a doctor commented, “We may as well amputate your leg,”. Leon felt his world shatter. Doctors started cleaning his wound with Peroxide and Betadine every second day, but nothing seemed to help. “My leg was black, full of puss and the smell was terrible – I knew that gangrene was setting in,” says Leon.
It was then, in desperation, that he decided to start trying to use BarrierTech which a friend had given him to use as a disinfectant. Leon started spraying BarrierTech on his wound 3 times a day in between cleaning. After 3 days, he could already see the bacteria had started breaking down.
Weeks later, Leons leg was then broken again by four doctors while he was conscious and his leg was plastered up again, this time with a ‘window’ where the open wound was. Leon continued spraying the wound with BarrierTech only. “I even stopped taking my antibiotics as they were clashing with the Warfarin,” says Leon.
The vast improvements during the 3 months that Leon used ONLY BarrierTech to clean and disinfect his wound.
After 3 months of using only BarrierTech, Leons wound had completely healed. “I was about to have my leg amputated, and thanks to the amazing disinfecting properties of BarrierTech, I am now living, walking proof that this is an unbelievable product that can be used not only on surfaces as a santifiser or disinfectant, but on humans too.”
