How it works
The physical binding matrix backbone of BarrierTech has associated with it, by non chemical bonds, a selected group of well understood Acticides.
The effects of the Acticides are amplified because they are acting upon micro organisms whose ability to reproduce has been severely impaired and are therefore more susceptible due to their age cycle.
BarrierTech is differentiated from other anti-microbial products offered by downstream producers in a number of ways. The key to its performance is the proprietary mixing and blending technology. This enables multiple and usually “incompatible” biocides to be chemically stable and allow them to work synergistically together. The anti-microbial impact of the combined actives is magnified so that the amounts of each active ingredient required are way below previously accepted minimum inhibitory levels.
The actives are bound together on a molecular core and form a non-leaching bond with most surfaces so that treated surfaces can retain their anti-microbial properties even when the surface is repeatedly touched or cleaned.
As conventional biocides are known for their constant effect vs. hazard-compromises and trade-offs, BarrierTech could be the called “the ideal biocide”, offering a unique combination of attractive properties never before seen in the marketplace:
- a wide spectrum of activity
- acts rapidly
- microbicidal at ultra-low concentrations
- cracks biofilm, and prevent new forming
- residual effect after application
- works under dirty conditions, not easily quenched
- biodegradable, non-toxic (low cyto-toxicology)
- low resistance accumulation
- safe in use / handling / transport
- non-corrosive to products or surfaces
- compatible in most applications
Conventional mixing methods do not achieve these effects; rather the results of mixing different active biocides tend to be unpredictable and to give only marginal improvements in performance and efficiency.
The mixing technology is flexible allowing different combinations of actives to be used within different bases according to the particular needs and objectives of each potential user. The technology is modular and can therefore be focused to enhance impact on particular bacteria, fungi, fungal spores and flora and viruses on any combination of these, and can be tuned to fit particular application requirements.
BarrierTech acts against microbes both physically and chemically. Physical attack is achieved through the alteration of the surface structure of the treated area at the molecular level such that any microbes present in the surrounding environment (e.g. water or air) cannot find attachment. This reduces the presence of microbes in the first instance and provides lasting protection by greatly inhibiting the organisms’ ability to proliferate and to form a self-protective bio-film. Inhibiting reproduction has the effect of physically weakening any remaining micro-organisms and increasing their vulnerability to chemical attack. The biocides then act chemically to induce cell lysis (the bursting open of the cell walls) which results in the rapid sanitization of the surface.
The combined physical and chemical activity achieved by BarrierTech effectively eliminates the risk of mutation as organisms do not have the opportunity to reproduce. Consequently there is less need for rotation of disinfectant materials which is common practice in many applications.
BarrierTech also have proprietary formulations for a degreaser.
